BPOC partners with cultural institutions in Balboa Park, across San Diego, and beyond to develop award-winning grant applications.
As a nonprofit service organization, BPOC has learned that small- to mid-sized institutions often require assistance in something more than just digital and technology innovation: grant writing. Many institutions lack the resources needed to develop complex funding applications. BPOC partners with these institutions to write grant proposals and reports, create budgets, and develop work plans. In addition, we identify potential funding sources that may otherwise be unknown to the institutions. The result is a substantial foundation and government support for projects that could not have been achieved on their own.
San Diego Model Railroad Museum; San Diego Civic Youth Ballet; San Diego Youth Symphony & Conservancy; San Diego Civic Dance Arts; and more
Depending on institutions’ individual needs, BPOC can either provide guidance or take a leadership role in the grant writing process. This process includes:
- Learning the mission, values, goals, and programs of our partner organizations;
- Identifying foundation, government, and corporate sources of support;
- Developing comprehensive work plans to ensure deadlines are met;
- Providing recommendations on voice and strategy based on specific grant guidelines;
- Writing and/or proofreading all application materials;
- Working closely with partners to create detailed project budgets; and
- Submitting and tracking grant applications.
Successful Grant Proposals
BPOC has spearheaded successful grant writing projects for a range of cultural partners:
San Diego Model Railroad Museum
With leadership support from BPOC, SDMRM received an Institute of Museums and Library Services grant for the Centennial Railway Garden, a miniature model of Balboa Park as it appeared during the 1915 Panama-California Exposition.
San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, San Diego Junior Theatre, San Diego Youth Symphony & Conservancy, and San Diego Civic Dance Arts
BPOC helped these four institutions secure a National Endowment for the Arts grant for Youth in Arts. The exhibit showcased the extraordinary histories of these youth arts organizations over the past 70 years.
San Diego Air and Space Museum
BPOC was awarded an Institute of Museums and Library Services grant for Museums at Your Fingertips. Through this pilot project, BPOC tested a telepresence robot in the San Diego Air and Space Museum in order to bring the museum experience to the classroom.
San Diego Chinese Historical Museum
With BPOC’s assistance, SDCHM received a grant from LYRASIS to implement the CollectionSpace project, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The CollectionSpace management tool will enable the museum to catalog, manage, and provide access to their historic object and library collections.
Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego Air and Space Museum, and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
BPOC received a Digital Media + Learning Competition grant to develop an Art & Science of Vision digital playlist. This connected learning experience will provide learners ages 13 and older with vision and optics-themed interactive content from all three museums.
